Is BlinkenSisters free? Is it safe?
Yes, BlinkenSisters is open source and licensed under the GPL. That means, it's free. It also means 'free' as in 'speech', not 'free' as in 'beer'! So a anyone may still charge anything he/she wants. But he/she must tell you, that you can download the sources (and binaries) for free (as in 'beer') from our website.
For your assurance, there is no advertising in the software, no virus, worm, trojan horse or anything like that. The is no registration needed to use the software, we don't send spam and we don't annoy you with unexpected messages!
The software does not "phone home", e.g. connect to our server to submit any data. The exception here is, that if you use the "download" function within BlinkenSisters, the software sends its version number so you wont get incompatible downloads. During that process, BlinkenSisters might notify you of available upgrades to the software itself, if we fixed some major bugs or released a newer, better version.
We do everything possible to keep you anonymous. BUT we also request your feedback (the good, the bad and the ugly), so if you don't mind talking to us, mail us at: team < at > blinkensisters.org. The more feedback we get, the better the software gets!
